Will Act For Food (WAFF) nourishes the Chicago community artistically and literally. We take a collaborative approach to theater; finding the light in darkness, revealing truth within fiction, and celebrating the absurd in the everyday. By offering discounted admission in exchange for non-perishable food donations, we empower our audiences to help feed those in need.
Mission History
Since its inception in 1997, WAFF has encouraged its artistic supporters to actively participate in fighting hunger by offering discounted tickets to patrons who donate non-perishable food items. Additionally, WAFF designates one night during each production as a Cans For Cash event, where patrons may donate food in lieu of admission price to the show and an after-show gala.

In the beginning, WAFF named one food bank or shelter each year as recipient of all food collections from that season. Past recipients include Residents for Effective Shelter Transitions (REST), Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository. In 2005, WAFF designated Lakeview Pantry of Chicago as its permanent beneficiary of all food items raised.
